Mark the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day with Action

To celebrate Earth Day 2010, Earth Day Hamilton-Burlington is co-ordinating a large tree planting initiative for youth.

Thanks to the generous support of the Tim Horton Children's Foundation and the Hamilton-Wentworth Stewardship Council, Hamilton youth are helping to restore a woodland buffer protecting Churchill Park in west Hamilton. Youth from across the city will celebrate Earth Day by planting 1,000 trees in the park that borders Cootes Paradise, one of Canada's important nature sanctuaries for both plants and wildlife.

Located on lands owned by the Royal Botanical Gardens, the RBG recently determined that the forest is in peril. Reforestation efforts will create a natural buffer to deter invasive species that have been encroaching on the forest.
